neijing acumoxa…

Neijing acumoxa is a style of acupuncture that derives its clinical methodologies from the fundamental text the Huangdi Neijing (Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic of Medicine). This text contains two sections, The Suwen 素問 (Simple Questions) and the Lingshu 靈樞 (Spiritual Pivot). Together they form the entire basis of Chinese medical theory and practice. This style of medicine is not only a complete medical system, however, it offers its practitioners (and their patients) a way of life rooted in ancient east-asian culture.

One of the key differences between classical acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (or TCM, a name given to the standardised medicine of the Peoples Republic of China in the 1940's) is that Classical Acupuncture is not used based on point protocols or specific function, but rather on an understanding of the natural movements of fundamental substances through the body landscape according to the laws and principles developed around the notion of systematic correspondence between beings, earth, and the natural cosmic order of the heavens (人地天). This means that within this style of acupuncture one discerns the patterns of nature within the body in relation to its environment, and treat accordingly.

Moxibustion or Moxa is a huge part of acupuncture styles from all over the globe. This unique technique includes the heating of a specific area, channel terrain or acupuncture point through the burning of a substance over it (known as moxa, a herb named aiye in Chinese medicine). Moxa is an incredibly powerful medical method and is also very safe. For more information, please contact David White below.

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine is an incredibly diverse practice. Having been the primary health modality of east-Asia for well over two millennia there is very little that Acupuncture and Chinese medicine has not dealt with. Rather than list disease and condition after disease here, it is always best to consult your practitioner and we encourage anyone considering acupuncture to call, email, or message us with their query.

What one will find is that the approach used in Acupuncture and Chinese medicine is one of a completely different scientific paradigm than what we have today. The founders and developers of this medicine stemmed from a time where their outlook on their environment, body, and universe was incredibly unique. Yes, they looked at the same body as the rest of us do, however, where we see structure they may have seen pattern and function, where we label one thing, they may have labelled two or more as an interconnected system. Naming of conditions and diseases is also radically different in acupuncture, where practitioners will often discuss obstruction or chaotic disease states, tissue based patterns, channel and vessel disorders, and organ, emotional, and physical correspondences. Often these new terms can be confusing and it is highly recommended to ask David about these issues to greater your understanding of self. With over 22 years of tertiary teaching experience he will be able to give you insight into this ancient practice.
